1997 Bitter SC Coupe For Sale

1997 Bitter SC Coupe For Sale

69700 Km (43000 Miles) Genuine.

This 1997 Bitter SC Coupe we have for sale was built in RHD for the British market and was sold new in the UK. An incredibly rare car and certainly amongst the rarest vehicles we have ever handled! Bitter Cars harked back to an earlier era of virtually hand built vastly expensive Grand Tourers. With styling input from the great Italian names of Michelotti and Pininfarina, paintwork from Zagato and a Bespoke Leather interior from SALT of Turin. Bitter assembled the finished product using Opel mechanical components in a collaboration deal with General Motors in their facility at Schwelm nr Dusseldorf at a rate of between 1 and 3 cars a week

Bitter having filed for bankruptcy in 1990 after producing just 461 Bitter SC’s in a production run from its Frankfurt Auto Show debut in 1979 to the end of 1989. A mere TWENTY NINE coupe’s were in Right Hand Drive reportedly ONLY SEVEN RHD cars remain in the UK? this example being THE LAST ONE ever produced and as such has led an interesting life!

Originally started just before the demise of Bitter in Germany the bodyshell along with all the other assets of the company were held in the legal problems of the company and its founder Erich Bitter, an enthusiast made a deal for the last vehicle in 1991 but the car remained unfinished until 1996, when finally finished the car was scheduled to be Erich Bitter’s personal car but, an English enthusiast persuaded Bitter to sell the car and it was shipped to its originally intended destination of the UK. It was subsequently first registered in England in August 1997, the original owner keeping the car until 2008 with only four more knowledgeable owners since then, the last since 2014.

This Bitter is very straight and appears to still have all it’s original trim, panels and floor pans. Finished in its original factory metallic Silver it appears to be mostly factory paint although we can find evidence of minor paintwork on the car we can find no evidence of accident damage and underneath the car is in very good order. The bespoke Blue leather interior exclusively designed for the car by SALT of Turin is in excellent condition with no splits or tears and showing just the right amount of patina The Air Con is currently not working (we are trying to rectify this) all the electrics work as they should as do all the custom Bitter gauges and switchgear. A correct period stereo is in place. We have all the original factory brochures and literature plus unused new owner pack including pen, notepad, badges, cufflinks, umbrella, keyring and first aid kit.

Its original Mantzel tuned straight six cylinder engine which is bored to a capacity of 3.9 litres is in the car and with the three speed Automatic gearbox it gives solid Grand Tourer performance and a 140MPH top speed. And due to changes in emissions legislation in the years before this example was finally finished this is the only RHD example even produced with a Catalytic Converter so not only RARE but a ONE OF ONE !!

A VOSA printout and MOT history verify the mileage at 43000 MILES. And the car drives superbly exactly as it should

This grand Bitter is a very rare sight indeed and very rarely available, with this cars position in the companies history a truly Unique Opportunity which is realistically priced.

Supplied with UK Registration and MOT
